Moonlight Magic

Artist's Comment:

"In the beginning when I created the original layout for this piece, it was a white Arabian stallion rearing in the moonlight in a desert landscape. I painted on it some, however it just didn't hold my interest enough to continue. After that I moved on to other art that at the time I felt more inspiration for. I stored the canvas of this piece with other canvases and didn't work on it for a few years. Then one day when I was going through canvases I discovered this one which I had completely forgotten about. I held it and studied it for a time, and then decided to work on it again. The idea came to mind to change the horse to a unicorn, and the landscaping to a winter mountain scene. I enjoyed painting the unicorn (with it's sparkling horn) in this cold winter wonderland. I think I enjoyed most of all painting the stars, and cold blanket of snow and icicles. Adding the breath of the unicorn was it's finishing touch."

SNOW UNICORN

Snow unicorn,
King of the forest.
What is thy mystery?
What is thy quest?

Thy sparkling horn,
Gleaming stars in your eyes,
Twinkling from mane to tail,
Mingled with snow flakes and ice.

Majestic, proud, racing the wind!
Glowing in the magic of moonlight.
Snorting nostrils, loudly neighing,
Raring before the moonrise.

Awake not the night with thy neighing.
Let the night sleep in blankets of snow.
Disturb not the maiden thou loveth,
Till spring awakes the night,
At the song of a sparrow.
